Nord Electro 3 Fuse Replacement and Voltage Change

In 2022, I had a customer ask me how to change the voltage on his Nord Electro 3 from North American to European. I made this brief write-up to help him.

This also includes how to replace the Electro 3’s fuse. If you’re a world traveler, this might be worth printing out and keeping in your bag—perhaps along with an extra fuse!

Here’s a summary of the instructions. And now’s a fine time to mention that the HYBRO power driver is an excellent companion on your keyboard repairing adventures, and that it contains the funky bits necessary to open other Nord models.

Cautions

Always unplug the keyboard before starting this procedure. Start by pressing the power button with the unit unplugged. This discharges capacitors, and helps keep you safe. Still exercise caution, as mentioned below.

Warning: The power supply is enclosed in a metal cage for safety. You should avoid touching capacitors with metal objects. Capacitors may hold a charge even when the unit is unplugged.

Voltage Change Procedure

1. Unplug the keyboard from power

2. Open the Case

  1. Remove the unique retaining screw on the underside of the keyboard.
  2. Remove the top and front screws from each side panel.
  3. Leave the bottom side screws in place — they act as hinges for opening.
  4. Remove the six screws along the back panel.
Undo these screws on the back of the keyboard.

3. Access the Power Supply

  1. Locate the metal cage that shields the power supply.
  2. Remove the four circled screws securing the cage cover.
  3. Note: The left-side ribbon cable does not need to be disconnected — simply hinge the cover open.
  4. Change the voltage selector switch to the desired setting.

Replacing the Fuse

The fuse is located in a holder on the back of the keyboard. To replace it, use a flathead screwdriver to turn and release the fuse holder. Replace with the same type of fuse.

The fuse used in the Nord Electro 3 is the Bussmann MDL-3/10: 3/10 Amp, Time-Delay (Slow Blow), Glass Tube, 250V, UL Listed.

The Bussmann MDL-3/10 is available in a pack of five from Amazon.
